Life Soundtrack

I usually don’t waste my time responding to the MySpace bulletin survey things where you have to answer 100 questions like “Who was the last person you kissed?” and “Kool-Aid or Hi-C?”. But I saw a bulletin called “Life Soundtrack” from Shirley (who played bass in Log) that intrigued me. I decided to fill it out and post it here.

Directions:

  • Open your music library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc.)
  • Put it on shuffle
  • Press play
  • For every question below, type the name of the song that’s playing
  • When you go to a new question, press the “next” button
  • Be honest

If your life were a movie, what would the soundtrack be?

1. Opening Credits: “Into the Drink” – The Evil Queens
2. Waking Up: “Live at P.J.’s” – The Beastie Boys
3. First Day At School: “Wait for Love (You Know You Will)” – Josh Ritter
4. Falling In Love: “Humanoid” – Sheavy
5. Fight Song: “Moth in a Cloud of Smoke” – All Smiles
6. Breaking Up: “Dr. L’Ling” – Minus the Bear
7. Prom: “All I Can Do” – Mondo Generator
8. Life: “Palestina” – Ministry
9. Mental Breakdown: “Aleph” – Baroness
10. Driving: “Penny” – People in Planes
11. Flashback: “Downtown” – The Dexateens

Bob Marley’s kid to open all Van Halen dates

LiveDaily is reporting that Bob Marley’s son Ky-Mani Marley will be opening all of the upcoming Van Halen tour dates. Didn’t see that one coming and it should be interesting to hear the reasoning behind this. I suppose Marley can’t be any more of an odd choice than when I saw BTO open for Van Hagar on the 5150 tour.

To get you ready for the big show, here’s Ky-Mani Marley performing “The March” live in Chile.

First Blind Melon tour date surfaces

Blind Melon reunited last year with new singer Travis Warren. Since that time, the band has been busy at work recording two CDs worth of material. Now it’s time to take the show on the road and play for the first time since Shannon Hoon passed away in 1995. I developed a special bond with the band earlier in their career and was saddened at the loss of Shannon as well as the inevitable breakup of undoubtedly my favorite band at the time (and probably in my top 3 favorites ever).

I was alerted to the fact that there is a Blind Melon show listed on the calendar for the club The Basement in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, October 13. It excites me to no end to discover that the first “leaked” tour date just so happens to take place in my backyard. And, it’s the same week as two other reunion shows I’ll be attending – Van Halen (Cleveland, Oct.10) and the Smashing Pumpkins (Columbus, Oct.11).

I suspect more dates will start showing up in the next couple of days.

Here’s a video of the “new” Blind Melon performing “Harmful Belly”.

Van Halen set to announce tour

Billboard.com says the Van Halen tour announcement is coming on Monday (August 13) and that Van Halen will play 50 arena dates starting in October. Some people are bitching that Michael Anthony won’t be joining the reunited Van Halen but the fact of the matter is, as good as Eddie Van Halen is, David Lee Roth is the voice and I’d be willing to plunk down cash to see DLR run through Van Halen’s greatest hits with a 22-year-old guitarist filling the shoes of Eddie.

EDIT: Just to address the comment from LOL in the comments section … feel free to send me an MP3 of you doing your best David Lee Roth impersonation and I’ll toss it up here for people to check out. We’ll put it up against David Lee Roth and see if people can tell the difference.

Meanwhile, here’s a video of a kid jamming out to “Panama” and sounding pretty damn good.

And here’s the premiere Van Halen tribute band, Atomic Punks, doing “Unchained”. Not bad, but if I close my eyes and listen, I can tell that it’s not David Lee Roth singing.
