Shining – “The One Inside”

Shining tour dates – as the support act on Dillinger Escape Plan’s spring tour – were just announced and as part of the digital press release was a link to the Norwegian’s “shot in one take in the Mojave desert” video. Now, with a pretty serene setting and a shoot during the bright daylight, you might not expect this metal-meets-weirdo-jazz band to make anything that captures your attention but you’d be wrong. About a minute in, I thought, “Okay, I get it … guys playing insane and artsy-noise-metal in the desert. Is this going to go on for another three and a half minutes?” And then comes the sax. And I couldn’t turn away, couldn’t give up on the song (and, frankly, didn’t want to).

This is good stuff. No Ohio dates which is too bad as I’d like to see these guys live.

Bad Company & Lynyrd Skynyrd announce co-headlining tour

 

Both bands are celebrating a 40th anniversary – for Lynyrd Skynyrd it’s the anniversary of their debut album, for Bad Company it’s the anniversary of their formation.

With that many years of music under their collective belts, the hits will be flowing on this 12-date summer tour. Blackstone Cherry opens all dates except for July 27.

Scott Lucas & The Married Men – new video, new tour dates

Low budget? Looks like no budget but still an entertaining “life in the van” video.

The Married Men dates are with Empty Mansions, a new group featuring Sam Fogarino (Interpol), Duane Denison (Jesus Lizard), and Brandon Curtis (Secret Machines).

Oh, Jealous Sound, why aren’t you playing in Columbus?

The Jealous Sound have toured so infrequently since their inception in 2000 that a tour announcement is cause for celebration. However, that celebration is quickly deflated as the band is bypassing Ohio (to be fair – they did play in Cleveland earlier this year).

If mid-90s post-emo rock is your thing, you undoubtedly are familiar with this band but on the off chance that you’re just discovering this genre, here’s “Equilibrium” which can be found on The Jealous Sound’s 2012 release, A Gentle Reminder.

Scott Lucas and The Married Men cover Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer”

Scott Lucas revealed after his band’s performance in Columbus on Sunday night that the cover they opened their set with – Bananarama’s “Cruel Summer” – will be featured on the Onion’s A.V. Undercover series sometime in the coming months.

And, shaking the setlist up a little bit, Scott Lucas and The Married Men decided to play the song for the first time live at this show. Fans of the original song (which became a hit after being featured in The Karate Kid) may not recognize this version of the song which is exactly what the band was going for. It was either Scott, or his drummer Randy Payne, who said that when they decided to cover the song, they said, “What would this song sound like if it had been written by Neil Young?” Judge for yourself whether or not they nailed it. (In my opinion, they absolutely did!)
