Letters to Cleo to reunite … but don’t get too excited

Kay Hanley and Stacy Jones have been touring as part of Hannah Montana’s band and Hanley is married to LTC guitarist Michael Eisenstein so a reunion isn’t a huge surprise – they just had to rope in guitarist Greg McKenna and, well, let’s face it, his post-LTC career hasn’t exactly skyrocketed with Murder Capital of the World. Bassist Scott Riebling isn’t taking part in the 20th anniversary reunion and his spot will be filled by Joe Klompus (a member of Hanley’s solo band).

While it’s cool and all that LTC is reuniting (read the press release here … warning, it’s a Word doc), the “tour” is only 4 dates at this point (see below) and there is no indication of future shows or future new music. Until more dates get added or the promise of a new album surfaces, I’ll just have to be content with my LTC CDs and videos (thank you YouTube).

Dates:
November 8 -Los Angeles CA – The Roxy
December 8 – Boston MA – Paradise Rock Club
December 9 – Boston MA – Paradise Rock Club
* New York date in December to be added soon.

Desalvo video – “Oedipus Rising”

I’m not the biggest fan of noise rock but years ago Allan Stewart (Idlewild) and Alex Grant told me about a side project they were involved with called Desalvo and Allan gave me a 3-song demo that was filled with blast furnace, face melting NOISE. That being said, I LOVE the demo I was given – partly because Allan and Alex are good guys and partly because I had a reason to like the demos (they reminded me a bit of Knut, a band that I was introduced to by Aereogramme

Desalvo was featured on a Rock Action sampler this summer and will be releasing their debut album – Mood Poisoner – in September (not sure whether it will be available in the U.S. but I’m keeping my fingers crossed).

Check out a video for “Oedipus Rising” (warning: not for the weak of heart)

Here’s the tracklisting for Mood Poisoner according to Desalvo’s MySpace page:

BROWN FLAG
TONGUESCRAPER 1 & 2
RIPPER SITUATION
LATRINE LIZARD
GET BLACK
OEDIPUS RISING
SCHINDLER’S LIFT
QUESTIONABLE SPORT
SPANDOFLAGE
COCK SWASTIKA

Snow Patrol returns

Hey Gary, I’m keeping a top 10 spot on my year end list warm and cozy for you as I’m sure you’ll deliver.

Not a ton of info about the new Snow Patrol CD has been made available yet other than a title (A Hundred Million Suns), a release date (October 28), and the name of the first single (“Take Back the City”). In July, SP singer (and one of my favorite interview subjects) Gary Lightbody posted a MySpace blog rattling off a list of bands he’s been listening to this summer (Fleet Foxes, Sunset Rubdown, Fanfarlo) .

Gary, if you manage to read this, I’d like to suggest a potential opening band for any post-album release tour you might do, especially if it brings you to the U.S. You might already know them as they live on your side of the pond and they remind me quite a bit of SP. With that build up, let me introduce you to The Rushes.

The Rushes – “Corners”

Rick Astley – Together Fo Eva Roll

Mikepoint3 is the lead singer/guitarist for the noisy metal band 1point3 from Columbus, Ohio. I’ve described their sound in the past as being similar to the sounds created at a crash ’em up derby where the toothless drivers down a six-pack before hitting the mud pit and smash into their enemies all the while none of them are wearing helmets. Think my description is accurate?

Mikepoint3’s one of my favorite message board posters on the Donewaiting message board, he’s always dropping quotable posts and most recently added the following Rickroll-like video in a thread titled “Okay, so what should I do with the politics area of this board?” Of course, being Mikepoint3, he added his own flavor to the video (and is that Mike’s voice in place of Rick Astley’s????) Given the nature of the band he’s in, this video is even funnier – one of the best parody’s I’ve seen on the web.

Enjoy.
