Via Audio played in Columbus (4/29)

Spent the late afternoon last Thursday with Brooklyn band Via Audio out at Electraplay studio where we did an on-camera interview and captured the band performing 4 songs on video. Look for that feature on Donewaiting.com in the next couple of weeks.

In the meantime, thought I’d share some photos from the day (and night). I don’t own an iPhone and therefore can’t play around with Hipstamatic which makes photos look totally retro and totally bad ass, but I did play around with some of the filters on my photo editing software and the results look pretty cool … at least I think so.

Here’s Jessica from Via Audio laying down vocals at Electraplay.

Later that night, Via Audio and local band Like Giants (playing their second to last show) played to a handful of appreciative fans at Rumba Cafe, perhaps my new favorite place to see a show in Columbus.

I spent the night with Everest … and they made a video

Sounds dirty, doesn’t it? Fortunately, the two aren’t related.

Last night’s plan was simple – slide into The Newport 5 minutes before Everest went on (8:45), watch their 45-minute set, and be back home before the 11pm news started. It didn’t quite work out that way.

After Everest’s amazing set (if you go into listening to their music knowing that singer Russell Pollard draws inspiration from Neil Young, Jeff Buckley, and Elliott Smith, you’ll be well prepared), I ran into guitarist Joel Graves at the merch booth. Being the liner note reading geek that I am, I recognized Joel’s name from Dig’s third – and final – album, Life Like. Joel told me that I’m the only person that has ever recognized him from his short lived time with the mid ’90s alterna-rockers.

New music from Kyle Krone (The Shys)

The Shys have seemingly come to end but that isn’t stopping frontman Kyle Krone from continuing to make great music. Kyle’s hard at work on his debut album which he hopes to release this year. As a sneak preview, Kyle’s made a video of sorts for his song “Driving Deloreans” using old stock footage of the ’80s car made famous by the movie Back to the Future.

Video: Vince Neil – “Tattoos and Tequila”

With Motley Crue, Vince Neil plays – and packs – arenas. On his own, he plays small clubs, State Fairs, motorcycle shows, etc. Kinda strange. Live, Neil’s performances have left a bit to be desired, he’s of the school where singing every third or fourth word seems to be good enough!

Vince’s new album, Tattoos and Tequila, due out this summer, looks to be a covers album with just a few new original tracks. While I’m hoping Neil will make these songs his own, I suspect they’ll be pretty safe covers with maybe some louder or edgy guitar work.

01. Tattoos & Tequila (album version)
02. He’s A Whore (CHEAP TRICK)
03. AC/DC (SWEET)
04. Nobody’s Fault (AEROSMITH)
