Jimmy Eat World East Coast tour dates and presale info

Jimmy Eat World will be dropping their new album, Chase This Light, on October 16. I’ve heard some demos from the CD and I guess it can be said that if you were a fan in the past, you’ll like this. The band isn’t really headed in a new direction or experimenting too much.

11/17 – Seattle, WA — Moore
11/18 – Portland, OR — Crystal Ballroom
11/20 – San Francisco, CA — Warfield

Poor, poor Travis. Just a few years ahead of Coldplay and Snow Patrol, they had a moderate amount of success in the States but during their downtime all these other mopey, anthemic Brit bands came along and ate up the charts. The band’s released a new record, The Boy With No Name (did you even know?), that is actually among their best work. That being said, it’s also nothing different than the rest of their stuff.

Here’s Travis performing their latest single, “Selfish Jean”, on The Parkinson Show.

Maximo Park did a little touring in the U.S. this past summer but for such a heavily-hyped band, they fell short if they are hoping to make it big over here with their new CD, Our Earthly Pleasures. That’s too bad because the first track on the CD, “Girls Who Play Guitar”, is one of the best songs released this year. MORE TOURING IN THE U.S., PLEASE!

First Blind Melon tour date surfaces

Blind Melon reunited last year with new singer Travis Warren. Since that time, the band has been busy at work recording two CDs worth of material. Now it’s time to take the show on the road and play for the first time since Shannon Hoon passed away in 1995. I developed a special bond with the band earlier in their career and was saddened at the loss of Shannon as well as the inevitable breakup of undoubtedly my favorite band at the time (and probably in my top 3 favorites ever).

I was alerted to the fact that there is a Blind Melon show listed on the calendar for the club The Basement in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio on Saturday, October 13. It excites me to no end to discover that the first “leaked” tour date just so happens to take place in my backyard. And, it’s the same week as two other reunion shows I’ll be attending – Van Halen (Cleveland, Oct.10) and the Smashing Pumpkins (Columbus, Oct.11).

I suspect more dates will start showing up in the next couple of days.

Here’s a video of the “new” Blind Melon performing “Harmful Belly”.

Black Lips

“This is the second coming of The Libertines,” I said to David during the Black Lips afternoon performance at the Fader party at SXSW 2007 even though I had never heard a Libertines song in my life. I figured that these British kids MUST be ripping off Pete Doherty’s band. If not in sound, than in that dirty, rotten punk attitude.

“I don’t think these guys are from England,” David said back. “And they don’t really sound like The Libertines.”

Shows you what complete ignorance and a whole lot of free booze will do to ya.

The Black Lips have a new album coming out on Vice in September called Good Bad Not Evil. It’s loaded with primative ’60s garage punk songs like “Katrina” and “How Do You Tell a Child that Someone Has Died”.

A few September tour dates have been announced and include:

09/12 – Athens, GA – 40 Watt Club
09/13 – Carrboro, NC – Cat’s Cradle
09/19 – Brooklyn, NY – Music Hall Of Williamsburg
09/21 – Cambridge, MA – Middle East Restaurant

Now, if you believe everything you read (and in the Black Lips case you absolutely should), you may witness some of the following during a live show: puking, pissing, nudity, fireworks, spitting, members of the band making out with each other, and blood.

Here’s “Katrina” from the new album.

And while you’re here, how about an MP3 to check out?

Queens of the Stone Age line up Fall tour dates

… and Biffy Clyro is set to open!!!! Now, you probably have no clue who Biffy Clyro is and that’s cool but, finally, I’m just as excited about the opening band as I am the headliner. I mean, I’d love to see Bloc Party, and I don’t even mind Smoosh, but the teenage sisters don’t really make me say, “I HAVE to buy tickets to this show NOW.”

Biffy Clyro hail from Scotland and are tough to describe – they have certain emo tendencies (ala Jimmy Eat World, Sunny Day Real Estate) but they mix it with this explosive post-hardcore sound with thrashing guitars and the occasional screaming vocals. It can be rather jarring at time but it keeps the listeners on their toes. Their U.S. touring has been rather limited but it seems like 2007 is the make-or-break year for the band on this side of the ocean as they are currently playing on the Warped Tour, hitting a number of cities they’ve never played before.

Here’s Biffy Clyro’s “Folding Stars” video

The tour runs October 10 through October 31 and a few of the dates have started to surface.

Oct.10 – Lupo’s (Providence, RI)
Oct. 12 – Orpheum Theater (Boston, MA)
Oct. 20 – Lifestyles Community Pavilion (Columbus, Oh)
