Love the idea of a band playing one of their albums in it’s entirety. It’s not a new concept but, nevertheless, a great one especially when it’s a band I love playing an album I love. The Posies will be playing 1993’s Frosting on the Beater on June 12 at the Bell House in Brooklyn, New York. Ticket info isn’t available yet but expect this one to sell out quickly. Hopefully it’ll go over so well that Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow will decide to make a tour out of it for those of us unable to make the trip to New York.

SXSW 2009: Saturday wrapup
The last day of SXSW was spent catching bands I’d missed the previous few days and hanging with old “friends” that I’ve made over my years of writing.
Started out at the Creekside Lounge to see Duquette Johnston and the Rebel Kings at the Birmingham, Alabama showcase. I met Duquette when he was in Verbena many years ago (’96-ish) and we’ve traded a rare e-mail or two every couple of years up until the last two or so years where he’s shown up on MySpace. His live show was more rocking than his debut Etowah – kind of Neil Young / My Morning Jacket / Drive-By Truckers-ish. Good ol’ rock from the South. Been listening to his acoustic CD-R that he gave me a copy of that afternoon – hopefully you’ll have a chance to hear it soon.

SXSW 2009: Friday recap

Seriously, this post could start and stop with one word: Metallica
In what was one of the worst kept secrets of SXSW, Metallica played at the 2,100 seat, general admission open air venue Stubb’s in part to help promote the new Guitar Hero: Metallica game coming out at the end of the month. David called me at 6:30 and said the security guys told him that people with SXSW wristbands (like myself) didn’t stand any chance of getting in but I was determined and was able to get after waiting less than an hour in line.
SXSW 2009: Metallica – “Harvester of Sorrow” video
Full Friday update including tons of photos to come Saturday morning but didn’t want to waste any time getting this video up. It’s from Metallica’s “secret” show at Stubb’s tonight.
