New Blind Melon video – “Wishing Well”

Wow! I was expecting a concert video, a compilation of live clips spliced together from the band’s reunion tour with new singer Travis Warren. That would have been fine by me but, wow, this is much more than I expected. I’m a die-hard Melonhead and this video gave me goosebumps, particularly the short scene where Shannon Hoon’s mom, Nel, is seen giving Travis a hug (she’s the one wearing the Peace, Love & Shannon Hoon t-shirt). I was actually there when Mrs.Hoon showed up to see the band for the first time since Shannon passed away and it was a HEAVY situation.

The band has a shitload of tour dates coming up to support the release of For My Friends (available 4/22). Check ’em out here.

We Are Scientists – “After Hours” video

From the forthcoming Brain Thrust Mastery (an AMAZING album with a heavy British influence) due in stores on May 3, here’s the latest We Are Scientists video “After Hours”.

(Um … does the chorus remind anybody else of Soulcracker’s “Greatest Generation”?)

The Lemonheads – “Rudderless”

So, I’m trying to put the thought of missing SXSW out of my head cuz it’s only leading to a sour stomach. I think the thing I regret missing the most is Evan Dando and whoever else makes up the Lemonheads these days perform It’s a Shame About Ray in it’s entirety last night. I haven’t found too many reviews of the show though this one on NME.com says Emo’s Annex, which is essentially a parking lot with a tent thrown over the stage, was packed to capacity and those who couldn’t get in were standing outside the chainlink fence watching/listening as best they could.

This album brings up so many memories of my college days, particularly drinking $1 Mooseheads at this corner bar called Bub’s on the Ohio State campus while pumping dollars worth of quarters into the jukebox to listen to this CD that all of us already owned.

I found one Lemonheads SXSW clip on YouTube (I’m sure more will pop up later) but rather than post that one, here’s the Lemonheads doing “Rudderless” in 2005 at a club in Rhode Island.

Letters to Hannah Montana?

I threw up in my mouth a little bit when I learned that former Letters to Cleo members Kay Hanley and Stacy Jones are members of (Hannah Montana) Miley Cyrus’s touring band. I’ll admit that Letters to Cleo wasn’t the hardest rocking female-fronted alt.rock band of the mid-90s and if Cyrus starts drinking, smoking and cursing like a sailor, she may very well grow up to be the mid-90s period Hanley, but it still feels like a punch in the stomach to learn members of a band that I really liked 10 years ago are now earning a paycheck backing Disney’s latest pop queen.

Hanley spoke to The Boston Globe in December about her new job as a backup singer for Cyrus and says that she has agreed to wear long sleeve shirts in order to hide her tattoos. You can also listen to an audio interview with Hanley in which she describes how Jones hooked her up (“It’s the best job I’ve ever had,” Hanley says).

Jones and American Hi-Fi bandmate Jamie Arentzen get some facetime in Cyrus’s Good Morning America performance seen here. (New American Hi-Fi material is now available on the band’s MySpace site).

And how about Beavis and Butthead talking about Letters to Cleo’s “Here and Now”.
