This power trio from Columbus, Ohio sounds like my CD collection circa 1994 – it’s beer-soaked, guitar-driven, genre-escaping rock played with all dials set to 11. Oh yeah, it should be mentioned that the guys were able to cross at least one music-related item off the Speed Governor bucket list – the legendary Steve Albini recorded these tracks at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago.

Not much to this song, pretty simple and repetitive lyrics, pretty consistent beat, etc, etc. but it’s a good one to cool off to during this long, hot summer.
Easy to see why The Black Crowes and The Black Keys are fans of this Cincinnati-based trio, the Buffalo Killers organic sound has a classic rock feel and there’s something particularly Zeppelin-esque about the first track off the band’s third album, simply titled 3.
The official release date for 3 is August 2 but the band’s got some upcoming tour dates where you might be able to score a copy on CD or colored vinyl.

Two parts Deep Purple (Ian Gillan, Jon Lord), one part Black Sabbath (Tony Iommi), one part Metallica (Jason Newsted), one part Iron Maiden (Nicko McBrain) and one part HIM (Linde Linstrom) = WhoCares, a classic metal supergroup assembled to raise some money for a good cause – rebuilding and helping the music school in Gyumari, Armenia.
Unfortunately, the group only recorded two songs – “Out of My Mind” and “Holy Water” – but those two tracks, along with a 30-minute documentary showing Gillan and Iommi’s involvement with Armenia will be available later this month. More info on the release can be found here.
