“Golden Days” DVD now available

Indie filmmaker Chris Suchorsky thought he was filming a young band on the verge of becoming a household name when he asked The Damnwells if he could tag along on tour with them and watch as they recorded their sophomore album, Air Stereo. Little did he – or the band know – that things wouldn’t go as planned and that The Damnwells would fall by the wayside as similar-sounding bands like The Fray and Augustana received record company attention and radio push.

As is, unfortunately, the case with many indie documentaries, “Golden Days” has been wrapped up and completed for a few years and has run the film festival circuit but is only now available for old (and new) fans of the band to enjoy in their own homes. I don’t think this is a spoiler when I reveal that 2 of the band members featured in the movie (guitarist Dave Chernis and drummer Steven Terry) are no longer in the band and that The Damnwells have since released a third album (One Last Century) all while waiting for this documentary to come out.

Just in time for the holiday season, “Golden Days” is now available for purchase and, having been both a huge fan of the band and having had a chance to see a rough cut of the documentary nearly 2 years ago, I’d highly recommend either putting it on your Christmas list or buying a copy (or three) for your music-loving friends.

Remember Dig?

Dig released one of my favorite CDs of the ’90s, a self-titled 12-track disc packed with alternative rock hooks and a mild shoegazer guitar influence. Two more full lengths and an EP or two followed before Dig did what a lot of other bands of that era did and disappeared into oblivion.

Singer Scott Hackwith has been busy as a producer and scoring motion pictures since Dig’s breakup and is currently working with an amazing, instrumental band called For a Minor Reflection (he gets a lot of face time in the band’s studio diary video).

I interviewed Scott in 2004 (read it after the jump) and he said Dig was working on new material. A mere 5 or so years later, it looks like Dig is ready to make a comeback

Check out the first new Dig song in 10 years!

Def Leppard cancels North America tour

Damn. I was working on getting an interview with the band to preview their November show in Columbus. From DefLeppard.com:

Due to unforeseen personal matters, the third leg of Def Leppard’s North American Tour, set to begin on October 22nd, has been cancelled. “We know how truly blessed we are to have such committed fans,” said the band in a statement. “That’s why we’ve agonized over this decision. Even if just a single concert, we don’t take cancelling shows lightly, but unfortunately life’s commitments need to be the priority.”

Poor ticket sales? Something going on within the band?
