Want to be Nelson’s personal assistant for the day? It’ll cost you.

I was hoping to see Scrap Metal this week – a sort-of supergroup featuring the Nelson bros, Eric Martin (Mr.Big), Mark Slaughter, and Kelly Keagy (Night Ranger) – but the show was canceled. Not sure if it was poor ticket sales, if it was Keagy’s involvement on the Night Ranger tour which kept him from playing this date, whatever, but I was a little bummed as I had been looking forward to hearing the greatest hits of each member’s respective bands with, undoubtedly, an all-star jam at the end. (Read the band’s official cancelation notice here).

Nelson did book a new show in Columbus on October 25 (with Eric Martin opening) at the Alrosa Villa which kind of makes up for the canceled Scrap Metal show. So as I was poking around on the Nelson site, I saw a link to something that said “Be a Personal Assistant”. Might be cool to hang with the brothers Nelson for the day, show them around town, take them out to dinner, whatever. Heck, maybe they’d even give you a couple of tickets to the show and a backstage pass or two for your trouble, right? Think again, chumps.

  1. You are a jerk! I would have given anything to meet them, they are sooo hot and amazing musicians.

So what that they had to cancel? I happen to know they put on a great show, I’ve seen them a bunch of times and I can tell you for a fact that their shows always sell out.

Man-up, get over it and face that fact that YOU are the chump for this dumb blog. Get over yourself dude!

  2. Actually, as fan experiences go — this one ROCKS!
Who needs Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp?
I was fortunate enough to get to be a personal assistant at one of their shows in 2006, as they don’t offer for every show date (and they only offer 2 spots per concert — one for each twin). It’s the one on one time and Gunnar asked my input on wardrobe decisions for stage and I even got to hear some music they were working on. A few “errands” like taping the set lists onstage — but mostly FUN getting an opportunity to meet and hang backstage with one of my fave rock stars! Also, the Nelsons are really cool and down to earth — so it made the experience so worth it!
Other artists offer similar VIP packages for a LOT more money, and you’re lucky to get 15 minutes of a meet & greet. This was like a whole day — from afternoon soundcheck until after the concert!
I’m still on cloud 9 and highly recommend it! It’s GOOOOOD!!!

  3. Hmmm…..I think this sounds like a ton of fun! Being with 2 hotties all evening? Sweet!

  4. Wow no one asked you to sign up and participate if you didn’t want to. I loved the Nelsons when I was a teenager and didn’t even know they offered this cool experience. I just checked out their website and see they are offering these assistant spots at a lot of shows as well as vip spots. I may just check it out. Any one on one time with these two cuties would be one hell of a night!! Thanks for the info!!

  5. I actually did do the Personal Assistant thing a few years back. What a gas! Being a musician myself I was able to hang with pros who were not only down to earth but totally rocked as human beings & musicians. They went out of their way to talk to me about tricks of the trade. Totally hung out with them at sound check and after the show. Meals included! The seats I got were excellent! Shit, you could pay tons more for just a few minutes and maybe a photo with the celeb. I got 12 hours of great music and conversation. And I did get that photo with them and some merchandise to boot! I would say…they ROCK! I can’t wait to see the reformed Nelson band.
Their music rocks, their site rocks and they TOTALLY Rock!
Nicest guuys you could want to hang with for $1,000
So dude….maybe find someone else to pick on huh?

  6. Jealous much?

Or is someone cranky because he didn’t get his backstage pass (and his girlfriend DID)!!!

Everybody wants to be a rock star — or party backstage with a rock star!!! Doesn’t take a rocket scientist! LOL

  7. There are plenty of groups that offer packages like this, so I don’t know what your problem is with them doing it. It’s not coming out of your pocket. If people can afford it and are willing to pay it, it’s their choice. I’ve never done it myself, but I know others who have done it, loved it and done it a second time. They get to spend the day with them, not just a few minutes like some other groups and these are two of the nicest guys you could ever meet, not to mention the fact that they are both totally hot and a lot of women would kill to get the chance. Maybe that’s your problem guy. What have you ever done that would make women willing to spend $1000 on you? You jealous guys are pitiful.

  8. what? Are you kidding? I never knew about this. Dude! you are rad for posting this! Thank you! I gotta check this out! The Nelsons up close and personal? A dream come true! Thanks for the link to write to them. I am so there! Been there done that with others and was disappointed. This sounds way more cool. Thanks for blogging this! You might be a jerk……but look what I may get to do. Makes me want to ask. Have you done this? Don’t judge unless you have. I will wait to judge after I get my chance!

  9. So label me a chump for hanging out all day with guys who had a Number 1 hit and 3 top ten singles. How many people can say they spent the day with triple platinum selling musicians? I did. These guys are amazing musicians. Incredibly nice. Never could I have imagined getting all the benefits of being a personal assistant. Hanging with the twins all day, free merchandise, sound check, dinner and front row seats. There was so much more, but you will have to try it for yourself. You will not be disappointed. Do not knock it until you have tried it.

  10. Great experience, try it!
I’ve professionally assisted Grammy award winning recording artists and I’m also musician myself. I can assure you this experience is worth the expense! There are many musicians today charging over $500.00 for a quick 3-5 minute backstage visit where you are gathered with many people for a photo and signature. With the Nelsons, it’s a full day & night of nothing but one on one fun, no large groups or quick visits! You are involved in everything from setting up the show, choosing songs, hours of one on one time with the Nelsons, listening to ideas and songs that others don’t hear, the best seats for the show, helping out with merchandise, meeting other artists performing and being involved in the business side of the show. From a musician stand point it’s a thrill to be with the Nelsons one on one for a day to see and hear how they do things. The Nelson’s personal assistant package is far better than any other I have seen in the music industry and is worth every penny.

  11. First of all, I know from experience that this is well worth the money. Not only are these guys extremelt talented. they are the nicet guys you will ever meet. As a matter of fact, maybe you should pay the money and let them give you some charm classes.

  12. Hmmm….Chip, it sounds like the “twins” PR team has assembled en masse to try and lend credibility to this corruption of the so-called music industry. What a horrible joke.

  13. hmmmm….you mean Chump not Chip?
Just starting this thread to try to tear down someone’s business makes you a Chump.
I seriously doubt Nelson’s PR people even give a rat’s ass about this blast or have even seen it. I am sure they have better things to do.
And seriously….why do you? Oh I get it! You can’t get anyone to pay $1,000 to be with you so you got to rain on someone else’s parade.

  14. Oh, I’m sure the twins are nice as pie with the poor fans who fall for this scam. Why wouldn’t they be? They’re saving all that money that would go for a normal PA’s salary or an intern’s stipend, they’re getting a gopher, and they’re getting money back on the deal too! What’s not to be happy about? I liked the Nelsons back in the day, but I’m disappointed they’d exploit their fans this way.

If you really want experience in the music industry, apply to work, be an intern or volunteer to help out your local club or venue. Guess what? You’ll get the exact same interaction with celebrities, you’ll get to fetch their coffee, and you’ll actually get PAID–or get college credit–to do it!

  15. OMG! There’s a blog on this!!! LOL! Now, I love me some Nelson, too but $1,000 just to hang out with them? At first, I thought maybe the money went to charity (since they ARE involved in so much charity work, right?) but got to looking and apparently, it’s not. So, what does the money go for? I mean, seriously! For $1,000, I would expect more than just dinner, a few pictures and conversation. I better get some serious “alone” time with at least one of the twins and then he better write a song about me.
