New Liz Phair album. Huh?

I’ll admit, I have no idea what to think of this. Did anybody even know Liz Phair had a new album coming out? This is quite a departure in the sounds we’ve come to expect from Ms. Phair and I can’t decide whether it’s mad or brilliant (or brilliantly mad).

My 9-year-old just heard me listening to this and asked, “Who is this? Do you know her? I don’t like it” and then proceeded to surf to YouTube and pull up some dancey pop-rock song.

If this song floats your boat, you can buy the entire digital CD for $5.99 on Liz’s site by clicking “Get it Now”.

Band to Watch: Kopek

Catching up on e-mails after being on vacation for a week, I was introduced to Irish trio Kopek. It’s interesting how my frame of mind is different than others – I hear a modern sounding glam rock band which makes sense considering these 20-somethings are influenced by the likes of Zeppelin, Hendrix, The Stones. But others are comparing them to Alternative Press-type bands like The Exies and My Chemical Romance. Either way, it’s all good fist-pumping rock and sounds like something custom-made for driving around in the summer with the windows rolled down.

You’ll be able to buy White Collar Lies digitally beginning June 29.

Photos: Tame Impala – Columbus, Ohio – 6.15.10

Tame Impala has just a handful of dates left supporting MGMT (along with a few headlining dates in small club) before heading back to Australia. Last night they played under the hot Ohio sun at Lifestyles Community Pavilion in front of a sold-out amphitheater crowd and mesmerized said crowd with their trippy, ’70s psychedelic-meets-dance-rock sound. I had the chance to interview Kevin (vocals/guitar) and Jay (drums) for about 30 minutes in their budget hotel room before the show for an interview that will show up in the next week or so both here and on Donewaiting.com.

Setlist from Columbus, Ohio show:

1. Intro
2. Desire Be Desire Go
3. Make Up Your Mind
4. Alter Ego
5. Lucidity
6. Jeremy’s Storm
7. Solitude is Bliss / Skeleton Tiger
8. Half Full Glass of Wine
