Another Christmas-y type song that doesn’t suck. Jesse Malin and the St. Mark’s Social have a bunch of upcoming tour dates so check ’em out.
“No, I won’t be home for Christmas!”
Joan as Police Woman (aka Joan Wasser, ex-Dambuilders, Those Bastard Souls, Black Beetle) has a new CD, The Deep Field, coming out in the UK in late January (not sure yet about a U.S. release date). Here’s the first single, “The Magic”.
A few weeks ago, The Dollyrots asked their fans to answer the question, “What messed up thing do you want for Christmas?” (in reference to their 2010 release, A Little Messed Up). Fans were invited to submit their items and then Kelly, Luis and Chris set out to record a quickie Christmas tune running through some of the best entries.

I’m not a huge fan of Christmas music as performed by contemporary musicians. All too often the songs are nothing more than novelty tracks that are only worth listening to a few times during the month of December. Of course, there are exceptions, a few of which I’ll be posting over the next week or so.
Kyle Krone (ex-The Shys) is one of my favorite singers and all-around swell guy and while, lyrically, his track “California Christmas” deals with holiday cheer, I’d listen to this thing while driving to the beach on summer vacation.
