Lynam – “Is This a Heartbreak or a Loaded Gun?”

Digging through the dollar bin at a CD store in Cleveland this past weekend I came across the new release (Tragic City Symphony) by Alabama rockers Lynam. Not sure how a CD that came out in mid-August already found it’s way into the dollar bin (I’m thinking it was a promo copy the store got and didn’t realize it’s value) but I gladly threw down the cash to get a listen.

This is the band’s second release and the basic formula is mixing late ’80s cock rock (Motley Crue, Poison) with new school cock rock (Hinder) with maybe a dash of Fallout Boy included. It all adds up to a CD that any Buckcherry fan should own.

The first track – “Is This a Heartbreak or a Loaded Gun?” – is an amazing track and one that I’ve listened to probably a dozen times in the 3 days that I’ve owned the CD.

New Visqueen song!

Cripes! I remember loving me some Visqueen music a few years back though I seem to have lost the CD and, truthfully, had kind of forgotten about the band before receiving a link to a brand new song from the Rachel Flotard-fronted band (where ya been, Rachel????).

Visqueen makes a triumphant return later this month (Sept.8) with the release of Message to Garcia on Flotard’s new Local 638 Records.

Yipee!

Here’s a preview track.

Song of the day: Julian Plenti – “Games for Days”

Dummy me didn’t realize that Julian Plenti is the name of Interpol frontman Paul Banks’ solo project until I read a review of the CD in the new Rolling Stone. Obviously I don’t follow every move of that the Interpol guys make though I won’t turn off the radio/iPod when they come on.

That being said, I’ve listened to “Game for Days” about a dozen times today and it’s definitely one that buries itself in deep in your ear. Give it a listen and then grab the full-length, Julian Plenti … is Skyscraper.

Free music from Willowz side project, Barracks

Willowz frontman Richie James Follin has been busy the last 2 years between working on a new Willowz record, releasing an outstanding solo album, and writing and recording with drummer Loren Shane Humphrey under the name Barracks. According to the Barracks bio on their MySpace page:

It was decided that the music would be a mix of psychedelic, punk, and heavy rock in the vein of some of their favorite groups such as Black Flag, James Gang, and Blue Cheer. The album was recorded in 3 days in Los Angeles and tells the story of a young African boy they met one night while playing a benefit for Invisible Children. The boy they met is a victim of warfare and lost his mother to aids. During the recording, Follin lost the use of two of his fingers on his left hand and had to relearn to play guitar. This may have had a hand in the resulting raucous symphony of black and blue noise and texture captured on this debut. The record was recorded in the memory of the late great Lux Interior.

Barracks has made their album available for FREE on their website where you can either grab one song at a time or the entire thing as a ZIP file.

Here’s a sample: “Realize”

Love it? Then head over to the Barracks site and grab it.
