Magnetic Morning tour dates

This fall Magnetic Morning, the side project of Adam Franklin (Swervedriver) and Sam Fogarino (Interpol), will hit the road for a run of dates to play material from their self-titled EP (released on DH Records in April) and their forthcoming full length which will be recorded in August. No word on whether or not it’ll be available by the time of the tour.

Stepping outside their traditional (and comfortable) roles in their respective full-time bands, the duo takes a different approach to writing Magnetic Morning songs. Fogarino, Interpol’s drummer, writes a majority of the melodies for Magnetic Morning, something that Franklin handles with both Swervedriver and his own solo band.

You can pick up Magnetic Morning’s debut EP through iTunes and eMusic.

Darker My Love

Got an advance copy of the new Darker My Love CD, 2, in the mail last week and the first thought I had was “Is this the new Dandy Warhols album?” Of course, I don’t know the Dandies THAT well so maybe this sounds nothing like them but when I checked my e-mail in-box I see a note saying Darker My Love is going to be touring with the Dandies this summer so I guess the comparison isn’t too far off. 2 is a stunning listen, even the first time through, full of fuzzy and shimmering guitars, the kind of which made people fall in love with the previously mentioned Dandy Warhols as well as artists like Spiritualized. I haven’t given it enough listens to hammer out a review right now, but one will be coming shortly.

In the meantime, here are a few goodies for you to nibble on.

Bring the noise – Melvins to tour

I saw the Melvins once. They were sandwiched between two bands I really wanted to see, Skeleton Key and Tomahawk. I couldn’t find a corner far enough away from the stage to escape the noise they were creating. That was then, this is now. I still have never given a Melvins record a spin though based on some stuff that I’ve recently admitted to liking, friends tell me I’d dig the Melvins. Anybody have any suggestions of a good record to start with?

Here are some tour dates they’ve got lined up to support Nude with Boots due out early next month.
