LOST: One of Us

99% of the content you’ll read on AtomicNed will be music related but my obsession with LOST runs as deep as my obsession with music.

Now, while I may read some of the message boards and listen to some of the official and unofficial podcasts, I have to admit that I don’t really have a big theory about what’s going on, but I sure do like to share my opinions.

For the sake of those who either haven’t seen last night’s episode or who don’t care about LOST, I’ve saved my thoughts and opinions after the jump.

* Juliet seems to be playing both sides of the fence. I think this week’s episode reinforced how badly she wants to go home, even after being on the island for 3 years. How many times did she ask/beg Ben to let her go back to her sister in Florida? While the (shocking) closing scene makes it look like Juliet and Ben are working together and that she’s a plant in the Losties camp, I suspect that Ben made her some deal, something like “Bring Sun back to us so we can experiment on her and I’ll let you go home.” Of course she’s going to double-cross the Losties if it means getting off the island. But she’s also holding Jack close and not doing anything to piss him off just in case he can help her.

* People are debating on the message board what the “I’ll see you next week” comment that Ben said to Juliet means. I think that she will either personally kidnap Sun or help The Others kidnap Sun and bring her to Ben. I’ve read some comments that people believe that The Others will attack the Losties camp next week but I just don’t see that happening.

* Sawyer and Sayid really let me down when they confronted Juliet in the woods. Juliet played the “You guys are bad guys, so don’t judge me” card and they just let her get away with it. Sayid was very tough during the first couple of seasons but he’s lost his edge this year. I don’t know if this intentional or just bad writing on the part of LOST’s writers but I really hope we see the old Sayid real soon.

* I’m confused as to whether or not Ben had anything to do with the plane coming down. He seemed surprised but he also had a plan ready to roll out. When he went to see Mikail, he said he wanted a list of the passengers and all the facts on them so I tend to suspect that while he may known that a plane crash might happen at some point, the people on the plane weren’t handpicked by The Others to wind up on that flight (unless it was all Jacob’s doing and Ben didn’t know anything about it).

* The “Three men and a baby” line was classic. I wasn’t a big Sawyer fan during the first season but now I really look forward to the scenes he’s in.

My main source for LOST information comes from lostcasts.com. The hosts of this weekly podcast (new episodes are posted every Sunday afternoon) do a good job of scouring the message boards and digging through the comments section on their site to pull out all sorts of good information and spoilers. I highly recommend listening to their podcast if you’re a fan of the show and doing some of your own digging through the comments section. It can be a bit daunting at first – LOTS of comments – but there is some great stuff in there. For instance, I found a great link to a site that has all sorts of images, videos, spoilers, etc. on the lostcasts.com comment section.

Any other LOST fans out there? What did you think of this week’s episode?

  1. A Fig Dish and Lost fan? Excellent. Anyway, really liked last night’s episode and am excited for next week’s Desmond-centric episode. The thing with Sayid and Sawyer backing off I think has more to do with the specifics of what Juliet said. Sawyer must have been shocked that anyone could know about that murder, since he was completely alone and we don’t know yet what Sayid did in Basra, but I’m guessing it’s something shocking.

  2. I will now don my full geek suit for the following comments. 🙂

I think you’re right on about the Juliet thing. The very reason that Jack trusts her, is the SAME reason she could be playing HIM, desperation. Let’s face it, there is hardly a relationship on the island(or off it) that isn’t rooted in a scam or doublecross of some kind. It’s just a question of who’s scamming who.

As for the characters going OUT of character from time to time…Jack used to be the most untrusting suspicious of the lot. Lately I’m not sure where he’s coming from, but he seemed too willing to just play ball and accept things without questioning. And Sayid and Sawyer both were more unforgiving and badass about getting at the truth and have softened beyond all explanation. Locke was built up as this crafty all-knowing woodsman type. Yet he seems a lot more gullible and easier to manipulate than his character was written. As an example, the way Ben/Henry played him while he was locked up in the hatch last season. Oh well, inconsistencies or not, still the best show on tv!
