Tour: Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound
Tee Pee Records is hands down my favorite label of 2009 with a number of droney/stonergaze rock releases. Assemble Head in Sunburst Sound is one of the standouts on the label – influences ranging from Spiritualized to the Byrds to Pink Floyd – and the band is teaming up the like-minded (non-Tee Pee) band Sleepy Sun for a 3-week run across the U.S.

“I Want You Back” – Jackson 5 vs. Discovery
Coincidental timing. Discovery – which is a Vampire Weekend/Ra Ra Riot sideproject – just released it’s debut electro-pop album, LP on July 7. The release, which comes just a few short weeks after Michael Jackson’s death, features a quirky, indie-soul version of the Jackson 5 song “I Want You Back”.

“Sister Christian”: Night Ranger vs. Coheed and Cambria
If all goes well this week, I’ll be doing a phoner with one of the Night Ranger guys. Who knew that prog-metal dudes Coheed and Cambria covered one of the greatest power ballads of the ’80s?
