Another tip from a friend (this time, Metal Rob). Helms Alee put together a pretty rad ’90s MTV-influenced video for the track “8/16”. All sorts of references in this NOISY (think Melvins meets Sonic Youth meets Torche) video – see if you can spot ’em all. There are a few that I think I need help with but my favorite takes place at the very end (Ozzy & Lita from “Close My Eyes Forever”).
The fine folks over at Bobby-Best Creative turned me onto George Barnett, a 17-year-old kid from the UK who sings songs about college (“If you want to waste 5 years, baby you can do it with me”), not wanting an ID (“I don’t want my iris scanned so I can walk through my yard”), and dancing the night away on his debut EP, Sierra Planes.
George is a wise kid, he knows the way of the music world even as a teenager, and he’s offering up the EP for free. If ya dig it, maybe you can support George in his future endeavors in March when he releases his full-length debut, 17 Days.
If you want an idea of what you’re getting into before taking a chance on a free download, give the EP a listen.
Working on a new theme. It’s going to be a bit messy around here for a few days.
I’m late to the Cloud Nothings bandwagon though I probably should have jumped aboard when I learned that Dylan Baldi grew up in the same Cleveland suburb that I did. I bet Dylan and I had some of the same high school teachers though I graduated, I’m guessing, at least 15 years before he did.
This video doesn’t do a whole lot for me but it got over 11,000 views the day it was posted on Vimeo. And while the video is worth maybe a watch or two, the song is pretty cool – sort of what early Nirvana might have sounded like if they were influenced by Radiohead. Or something like that.
Attack on Memory comes out this week both physically and digitally.
