Everything Everything’s “Cough Cough”

Damn you, crazy Brits for this infuriatingly awesome earworm – it’s like tUnEyArDs-meets-Gotye-covering-Peter-Gabriel. That combination makes my head spin!

Everything Everything’s U.S. debut EP, Cough Cough, is out on Feb.5.

Dates in the U.S. are starting to take shape – LA (3/19) and NYC (3/25) are confirmed as is a SXSW appearance. No word on whether or not there will be more dates but the betting man says there will be.

Flashback Friday – Sugar – “If I Can’t Change Your Mind”

In honor of Sugar performing their 1993 album Copper Blue from start to finish at SXSW tomorrow night, here’s “If I Can’t Change Your Mind”.

Bob Mould was just interviewed on SiriusXM U live at SXSW and mentioned that Sugar might do some more Copper Blue dates this year.

Bring it on, Mr. Mould!

Hello Spring! Download Morningbell’s “You Think I Don’t Know (But I Know)”

It’s 2pm on a Saturday afternoon. I’m drinking beer. I don’t usually drink during the day but it’s a sunny day and Spring is in the air. Since I’m not going to be enjoying the sun, sounds, and suds of SXSW this week, I’m doing the next best thing and going through the email in-box and checking out all the bands that publicists have been asking me to give a listen to.

My favorite find of the day is Morningbell, a foursome from Florida that conjures up thoughts of Vampire Weekend and British ska-punk on the track “You Think I Don’t Know (But I Know)”. I have no idea if the rest of their fourth album, Basso Profundo (out on March 20; stream the whole thing here), sounds so snappy, so sunny, but this is exactly the type of band that I regret missing at SXSW.
